Hong Leong Yamaha Sdn.Bhd. has officially launched a new model known as Yamaha Y16ZR. The Y16ZR is an upgrade over the Y15ZR, carrying the engine from the Yamaha YZF-R15 and the Yamaha MT-15.

Brand New Design

Upfront the model gets a redesigned two-part headlamp unit, where the low beam is placed on top and the high beam is positioned at the bottom. Besides this, a pair of air ducts make the all-new Yamaha Y16ZR looks more aggressive and sportier.

The new Yamaha Y16ZR features a sleeker R1-style LED taillamp unit which is tucked nicely in the narrow tail section. On top of this, the license plate holder and seat have been redesigned as well.

Suspension and Braking System

Suspension duties are taken care of by a telescopic front fork and a mono-shock at the rear. In the case of braking, hydraulic disc brakes at the front and rear take care of braking duties. However, compared to the Y15ZR the Y16ZR gets a new 2-pot front caliper that works hand in hand with a large 245mm disc for effective braking.

Compared to one level ignition mapping with a 5-speed gearbox on the 150cc Y15ZR, the new Y16ZR is linked to a new 6-speed gearbox that produces different ignition mapping for each gear.
Yamaha’s VVA system- 2 separate cams control the intake valve: one cam for the low- mid-rpm range and the other for the high rpm range. High-speed intake valves have longer opening times, increasing intake air efficiency and overall capacity. VVA operates at 7,400 rpm or more.

Electronics and Rider Aids

In the case of electronics and rider aids, on the inside, the 2021 Yamaha Y16ZR gets a new negative LCD instrument cluster with a speedometer, tachometer, gear indicator, VVA indicator, etc. Besides this, the model gets full LED lighting, a 12 V charging socket and Yamaha Smart Lock with call back function and immobilizer.

5.4L Fuel Tank

The 2021 Yamaha Y16ZR comes with a large 5.4-litre fuel tank and Yamaha claims the Y16ZR can hit a maximum range of 256km.

COLORS AND PRICE

The model is available in three colours Phantom Grey, Arrow Blue and Raging Yellow with a recommended sales price of RM 10,888 excluding registration, road tax and insurance in Malaysia.
