The Proton Iriz has a strong level of stability. Now, it has been given a new lease of life with improvements in terms of specifications, safety, handling, and even comfort. The first update was in 2017 by reducing noise, vibration, and loudness (NVH) levels.

EFFICIENCY

The Proton Iriz (2019) is powered by a 16-valve DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine in two 1.3L (93hp @ 5,750rpm, 120Nm @ 4,000rpm) and 1.6L (107hp @ 5,750rpm, 150Nm @ 4,000rpm) engines with choice of two transmissions, manual 5-speed (Standard 1.3L MT variant only) and CVT, while the fuel system uses Multipoint Injection (MPI) technology.

The tank capacity is 40 liters included with the ECO Driving Assistance mode for all variants. The system uses MacPherson struts and stabilizer bars at the front and torque beams at the rear. The brake systems used is disc brakes at the front and brakes at the rear.

EXTERIOR CONFIGURATION

As we all know, the Iriz facelift 2022 was launched once with its sedan twin, the Persona. For this time, Iriz and Persona share the same headlights, grille, and bumper, only distinguished by a few small specifications. The headlight cluster still looks the same as before, but the infinite weave grille has been redesigned to look almost the same as the grille on the Proton X50, complete with a red highlight stripe on the bottom and also a new round-shaped Proton logo in the center.

The design now looks fierce as the chrome stripe on the top of the lamp and grille has been replaced with a shiny black finish stripe. The bumper of this model is also updated with significant changes where the LED daytime running lights are designed to be more muscular along with the bottom which is designed as a spoiler.

For the Active version, the finish provided makes it look neater and more rugged like a SUV model. This model is given a plastic protector under the side of the body on the door and also a flared fender on each wheelchair that looks like it is attached to an Allen boat. The protectors are provided around the body, equipped with a silver-finished skid plate on the front, rear bumpers and the side skirts.

The sides and back are created with a new design on the rim where the black finish on the tailgate door and also given a red stripe on the bottom finish of the bumper. As for the alloy rim size, it receives 15 inches for the standard 1.3 model, and 15 inches for the 1.6 executives.

The under-bumper grille for the Proton Iriz active is also different as it is the only Iriz variant that receives LED headlights and is equipped with a silver roof rail that stands out on the black roof.

INTERIOR DESIGN

SAFETY FEATURES

For Proton, safety factor is very much emphasized for this model. In terms of safety, all variants are equipped with Electronic Stability Control, ISOFIX child seat hooks in the rear, as well as a climbing start assistance. With the price offered from RM42,063.40 to RM56,440.90, the ownership of this Iriz is seen as very worthy. What’s more, there is a five-year warranty and free service for three years from Proton which adds another ‘bonus’ for the owners of this model.

Proton Iriz is sold at a fairly reasonable price, with important safety elements as well as tidiness especially the interior space can be said to be almost similar to the models of competitors of external brands.
